Bradgate

Here's my first finished image for the Bradgate Park project. Problem is, it's too flat and lifeless, and I can't put my finger on what needs changing, any ideas?

Testing a messy method of painting, it's definately more fun, but I'm still not sure if i like it..

Heh, I'm working with almost the exact same photograph! As for tips, I find it really useful to do the vast majority of the shading within the lineart and not the colour layer. With this one, like you I'm doing lineart from scratch [presumably?] on Photoshop, and it's ridiculously hard to build up all the tone with just PS brushes. Working over a fully rendered sketch seems to be so much easier!

Yeah that was what I was doing. So get all the shading and stuff done on the sketch and then just colour under it?

@Rosi: Yeah, it saves a lot of time and looks better, for me anyway. 8D

you know what, i think its the sky... the other one the sky was alot softer, this one seems abit heavy, but it was a crappy over cast day, the colours are spot on though...

It looks flat because you're not using any 'value'. Take a look here:

for some help.
